I have this game on my phone. And as daft as it might sound, this game has helped me through some hard times the past few months.

The principle of the thing is this: There are dots of various colours. You join the same colours together. They disappear. The aim is to clear as many dots as you can.

It’s riveting stuff.

My point? It’s a bit asinine, this one. But here we go:

Sometimes, the levels are marked as ‘ultra hard’ and I can spend days trying to complete it. It seems impossible. There’s seriously no way that I’ll be able to do this.

Until I do. Through no skill really, no exciting new tactic, or plan. It just works out exactly the way it needs to work out in order for the game to be won. It’s a really crap analogy for life and yoga, but analogy it remains:

when things seem impossible, when solutions aren’t coming, when you literally see no way out of your current predicament…

…something magical happens and you get to move up a level.

And in your yoga practice?

Applied to the yoga practice, when you see a crazy pose—an arm balance, a bind maybe—that seems completely unattainable, something only ‘Instagram yogis’ can do, a commitment to a simple, more ‘vanilla’ yoga practice will suddenly, one day, see you make it.

During recent tough times I’ve discovered that, by diving into my meditation practice, mindfulness and yoga, I’ve made it easier for myself to navigate. I can trust more. I can let go more. It’s truly magical.

So let this be a reminder that ‘the impossible’ is mostly in your head. We just need to keep practicing, keep trusting, keep the faith, and ALWAYS remember that yoga is more than just making your body do weird pretzel shapes.

Here’s to the light at the end of whatever tunnel you’re going through.
